The
South Devon Railway
'1369 Book Review'
ISBN 0 9522495 6 1

After a mere 16 years The South Devon Railway is  honouring its promise to produce a book about 1369, a copy of which will go to the many people who contributed to its restoration. The restoration itself was a long process as the book relates with several false starts along the way. Now the engine has been in service for a few years we have collected a good selection of photographs and other items of interest relating to the engine and have gathered it together into a 48 page A4 size book with full colour cover. The text gives a full history of the engine through from construction at Swindon, its work for the GW and BR (WR) culminating in its rescue for preservation. The years spent in restoration give a graphic illustration of the problems of railway preservation and its triumphal return to service on the South Devon Railway show what can be achieved with determination. The text is enhanced with 49 good black and white photographs showing it and its classmates at work, plus, of course, many of it at work on the SDR where it has proved to be a very useful locomotive and in demand for photo charters. A nice touch is a Great Western publicity poster postcard included as a bookmark.

The book is published by the South Devon Railway Trust and retails at £6-95 plus £1 postage and packing. ISBN 0 9522495 6 1
