South Devon Railway - Autumn Diesel Gala Day
"Gronk Aid 6"
Saturday 7th November
There will be a final chance to sample haulage behind the South Devon Railway heritage diesel fleet on Saturday 7th November. Following the gala most of the diesel fleet will be stored for the winter period.
Trains depart at 45-minute intervals throughout the day from 10.00 until 17.30.
Five locomotives, Class 20's 20110 and 20118, Class 25 D7612, Class 33 33002 and Class 37 D6737, will be in use together with the pioneer Class 122 railcar No. 55000.
The locomotive roster has been arranged so that followers of Class 20's can travel on all services worked by 20110 and 20118. Likewise enthusiast who enjoy Sulzer traction will be able to travel on all services worked by D7612 and 33002.
The event will see 20110 making its first runs on the line since June, the loco having spent the summer on loan to the Spa Valley Railway. Sister locomotive 20118 will be making some of its first runs since being repainted, whilst Class 37 D6737 is expected to appear in green with newly applied yellow warning panels.
At Buckfastleigh Class 50 D402 will be on show. Work to restore the loco is going well and the first coat of BR blue has recently been applied. The loco may appear outside subject to completion of further planned restoration work.
Proceeds from the event are again being directed towards the restoration of the South Devon Railway Trusts Class 09 D3666. Work is expected to start on the loco in due course thanks to the funds raised from previous Gronk Aid events and proceeds generated from the popular diesel driver experience courses.*
The Devon Diesel Society will again be running an on-train bar featuring a range of bottle conditioned ales.
At Buckfastleigh the refreshment rooms will be offering a range of hot food and drinks, whilst Expressway Models will be open for the sale of model railway items and general gifts.
Day rover tickets will be available allowing visitors to enjoy multiple trips along the line.
