‘Behind the Scenes’ Weekend
7th and 8th September 2019
Our Behind the Scenes Tours will be operating between 11am – 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
Totnes Riverside – You can get up close to the wagon restoration facilities and see the station from a whole different perspective.
Buckfastleigh – From the platform, you can watch steam locomotive L92 performing shunting demonstrations around Buckfastleigh at 12:15pm and 2:40pm. Goods trains will be arriving at Buckfastleigh at 11:00am & 1:55pm and departing at 12:45pm & 4:55pm.
You can reach our Gardens via the footbridge where you will find our Miniature and Garden Railways (weather permitting). Tours of the miniature railway shed and workshop will start by the entrance of the Garden Railway.
Adjacent to the Garden Railway you will find our newly built running shed, where you can visit the footplate of steam locomotive 3205, view some of our heritage carriages that are currently under restoration and if you’re feeling peckish tea and cake will also be available.
Guided tours of our workshop will be take place at certain times throughout the day, for more information please speak to a member of our running shed team.
Opposite the shop and café you can visit our Carriage and Wagon Workshop where you will see one of our major coach restoration projects.
The original Buckfastleigh Signal Box will be open for viewing at the North end of our site.

Refreshment Rooms and Models & Gifts – open 9.30 – 17.30.
Ashburton
Our railway ran a further two miles to Ashburton in GWR and British Railways days, but in 1972 the A38 Expressway was built over the the trackbed.
Catch our former London Transport Red Routemaster ’Bus to Ashburton which will travel along the A38 Expressway and return via the old A38.
