The site at Buckfastleigh is to reopen to the public on Saturday 1st August.
Throughout the pandemic, every day, we have been looking at our options and studying the experience of others, not just railways but other attractions. We are being cautious as we do not want to risk the safety and health of our customers and staff.
We do feel, though, the time is right for a partial reopening. What we have, unlike most of our peers, is a fantastic site with plenty to see – not just rolling stock, but our gardens and everything else Buckfastleigh station has to offer. The site will be open every Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday (10am to 4pm) starting from Saturday 1st.
From Saturday 1st August, for a donation (which provides us with gift aid opportunities), we are welcoming visitors back to Buckfastleigh. A route has been marked out around the site, taking in the children’s playground, garden railway, loco yard, Lee Moor shed, running shed, workshops, carriage shed and north signal box, providing visitors an opportunity to get up close to many of the historical assets we have.
The SDRT Routemaster RM1872 is scheduled to do five return trips to Ashburton ( Bullring ) starting at 11.30 from the Buckfastleigh Station forecourt when the site is open in August and weekends in September.
The site will be open at weekends throught October and Sunday 1st November.
Unfortunately, the SDRT Museum will not be open at this stage.
