>>>>> NOTE: this coach has been sold <<<<<
SK 25693 was rolled out of the C&W works at Buckfastleigh yesterday after receiving an overhaul. Although not a complete overhaul the carriage now makes a very pleasing sight in its freshly applied carmine and cream livery. The roof has been repainted and the bodywork has been repaired where rust had started to attack. The upholstery is complete although 'tired'.
25693 was originally bought from BR by the DVLR Plc who used it for several years on Totnes-Buckfastleigh services. In the years 1985 to 1988 it was passed to run into the mainline station at Totnes under the running powers agreement which saw DVR trains sharing the mainline station with Western Region expresses. In 1991 the coach was sold to the SDR when we took over the running of the line. It was used for a couple of seasons but was superseded by newly restored Great Western carriages and other open coaches. Consequently it had been in store at Staverton for some years. The decision has been taken to sell the coach as surplus to requirements.
One railway has already inspected the coach and has first refusal but any other interested bodies should make contact with the SDR Telephone 01364 643536 Fax 01364 642170 EMail
