Lance Hale, a volunteer worker on the Dart Valley and South Devon Railways for over 40 years, qualified as a driver on Sunday 5 April 2009, exactly 40 years since the line re-opened in 1969! He had his first solo turn on Saturday 6 June, another notable date in history.
