Dates: 29th March - 1st April
Our Easter Gala features steam and diesel trains all day, intensive service, goods trains, classic cars (on the Sunday and Monday) and much more, including the launch into service of our GWR pannier tank locomotive 5786 as London Transport L92.
London Transport had a fleet of former GWR engines which worked from their depot at Neasden on the Metropolitan Line. These engines lasted in service until 1971, three years after steam ended on British Railways. Our engine 5786 was one of these engines and has been finished in the attractive maroon livery of London Transport to celebrate the 150 years since the 9th January 1863 when the world’s first underground train pulled out of Paddington station to make the first passenger journey – 3½ miles under the streets of London from Paddington to Farringdon and into the record books.
- Lots of interesting operations including tail traffic, goods trains and lots of shunting at Buckfastleigh (utilising 1369 on Friday and D3721 on Saturday, Sunday and Monday).
- Gala debut of L92 (5786 in London Transport livery) - will be running with a LT goods train.
- Mix of steam and diesel locomotives on services - 1369, 3205, L92, D8110 each day, and 33002 on Friday.
- Saturday night services with L92 - 18.30 will have Curry and Rice available.
- There will be a bar on board the ‘Set M’ trains throughout the gala including being open on both of the Saturday evening services
- On Sunday and Monday the SDRT’s Routemaster ’bus, RM1872, will be running a circular route via Buckfast Abbey to Ashburton and return direct to Buckfastleigh Station – see timetable below
And don’t forget that at Easter, our friends at the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm and Dartmoor Otters & Buckfast Butterflies will be open - superb value 3 Great Attractions 1 Amazing Day tickets will be available.
