This coach was built by the Great Western Railway in 1938 under lot 1594 to diagram D127 and came to the South Devon Railway from the Dean Forest Railway.
This type of coach were popularly known as “Sunshine” coaches because of their large picture windows.

The coach has needed a major rebuild and was just a shell with the exterior painted in Carmine and Cream and the electrics reinstated.  The coach has been returned to full working order and can be seen on the BR(W) main set.

1645 will only join the Great Western train comprising 6515, two "Excursion Coaches" 1285 & 1295, Hawksworth First/Third Brake 7377, Compartment coaches 536, Third Brake 2180 (which is being rebuilt as a wheelchair friendly buffet car) and Full Brake 276 together with Ocean Saloons 9111 "King George" and 9116 "Duchess of York" when 7377, which normally performs the brake coach rôle, is in for repair.
